“My personal mission is to create an environment where people can be successful.”

Todd Poulsen

President

As the son of our company’s founder, Todd has been living and breathing Elan since he was a boy.

He’s a veteran of the construction industry in his own right, having started as a labourer in 1980. Eager to help the family business, Todd studied Civil Engineering Technology at SAIT, and joined Elan Construction full-time in 1990.

Ten years later, he became an Elan shareholder and now runs the day-to-day operations with Trevor Poulsen.

Today, you’ll more likely see Todd holding a pen than a hammer, making key decisions that steer the company forward. Though he knows the future of the company depends on those decisions, Todd is confident in his vision and seizes every opportunity to make Elan better.

Todd is also a great believer in building up the community and does this through actively supporting a variety of not-for-profit organizations. From Classroom Champions and the Calgary Construction Association Education Fund to the Calgary Food Bank and Salvation Army, Todd along with the Elan team, are always looking for ways to build a better community.

“I think a good way to describe it is that we are very nimble. We excel at schedule and cost management by advocating for our customers.”

Trevor Poulsen

vice President

As the company’s Vice-President and son of its founder, Trevor has Elan in his veins.

Trevor has been working for Elan since he was a teenager, spending time in almost every role imaginable: labourer, office cleaner, secretary, accounting, payroll, project coordinator, project manager, estimator, the list goes on.

Today, with his extensive knowledge of the company and degrees in both business and engineering, Trevor is perfectly positioned to carry Elan into the future.

After 30+ years in the family business, it’s no surprise Trevor shares the same work ethic and values that served as the company’s foundation. His commitment to honesty, accuracy and quality are matched only by his dedication to his clients and employees.

Andrew Desrosiers

FIELD MANAGER

Andrew started his career in construction at Elan in 2007. A labourer at first, Andrew quickly learned that the company's family-style atmosphere was something special—he was treated like a person rather than a number. He worked his way up to apprentice, journeyman, Superintendent, and finally Field Manager.

In the morning, you might see him leafing through drawings, while in the afternoon he might be touring the site. The diversity keeps his work fresh and his mind sharp and helps him learn and grow every day.

He views the construction industry as an ever-growing entity that seems vast but is actually a close knit group of tradesman and suppliers working together to satisfy clients and owners from around the world.

Derek Coonan

PRE-CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

Derek brings his experience, focus and dedication to Elan’s fast-paced pre-construction environment to set up projects for success.

He began his career as a Cost Analyst on various towers in Calgary’s downtown core. After gaining experience on the owner's side of construction, he decided to transition to the General Contracting side where he quickly realized his passion was.

Since joining Elan, Derek has had an opportunity to manage a variety of projects of all different sizes from large scale industrial warehouses to high end office fit outs. The breadth of this experience is what Derek attributes to his well-rounded practice as a project manager.

With collaboration front and centre, he strives to bring value to Elan’s clients and project teams prior to the boots hitting the ground.

Ed Shenton

SR. PROJECT MANAGER

Ed joined the Elan team in 2013 with over 20 years of diverse experience under his belt.

He spent a decade working as a project manager for a commercial signage company, where he spent time working with a variety of construction projects. His experience there made for a natural transition into the construction industry.

According to Ed, Elan’s strong values and well-structured procedures helped him earn his reputation for consistency and steady-handed management. He is determined to foster a team environment on all projects he is involved in.

He strives to ensure clients, consultants and sub trades alike come away from projects proud and satisfied.

Megan Heimann

operation MANAGER

Megan discovered her passion for architecture during a European art trip. She quickly enrolled in Architectural Technologies at SAIT, but after earning her diploma she realized she preferred construction to drafting. She went on to work various coordinator roles before joining the Elan team in 2012 as a project manager, and quickly rose up the ranks to her current role.

Since then, Megan has managed projects of all sizes, including commercial, industrial, and institutional/educational buildings. She attributes her success to hard work, industriousness, and the supportive, collaborative atmosphere at Elan. She appreciates the owners’ dedication to her growth as they help her live up to her full potential as a leader in the industry.

As Construction Manager she strives to streamline and deliver successful projects, providing support and mentorship to co-workers.

Michael Jondreau

lead SUPERINTENDENT

Michael entered the construction industry in 2004, and two short years later began working with Elan.

At Elan, the values Michael inherited have fit perfectly. Michael is organized, detail-oriented and can often be heard saying “if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing it right.”

Michael’s decade and a half of construction experience has made him a critical asset, ensuring smooth execution of site operations.
